Teaching

An Educator Who Goes Beyond the Textbook

Dr. Himanshu Rai has taught postgraduate and doctoral students at IIM Lucknow since 2006, and has held teaching positions at XLRI Jamshedpur, MISB Bocconi (India campus of Bocconi, Milan), and SDA Bocconi School of Management, Milan. His core area is Human Resource Management, with a focus on Negotiation, Mediation, Arbitration, Strategic HRM, and Leadership.

His courses are not defined by their syllabi alone but by the questions they ask students to sit with. Whether exploring the ethics of leadership through literature, analysing negotiation strategy through role-play, or examining identity through the FIRE programme, every course Dr. Rai designs is an invitation to think more deeply, live more intentionally, and lead more responsibly.

Courses Designed and Taught by Dr. Himanshu Rai

Strategic Business Negotiation (SBN)

A dynamic, role-play intensive course that builds negotiation ability from the ground up — identifying individual strengths and weaknesses, developing strategy, and sharpening communication under pressure.

Justice, Ethics & Morality (JEM)

One of the most popular electives at IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore. A philosophical inquiry into fairness, ethics, law, and morality — through examination of real issues with deep philosophical underpinnings.

Leadership Through Literature (LTL)

Uses renowned works of literature to build perspectives on abstract leadership concepts — vision, meaning, myth, identity — through discourse, debate, and critical analysis of literary characters.

Organizational Behaviour (OB)

Explores how individuals and groups interact within complex organisations — values, attitudes, personality, culture, motivation, and communication — combining academic frameworks with case analysis and role-play.

Human Resource Management (HRM)

Strategic and integrated approach to managing and developing people — covering recruitment, performance management, team building, leadership, and employee engagement.

International Business Communication (IBC)

Equips students for communication across cultures — emphasising sensitivity to cultural and societal norms, persuasion strategies, and clarity in complex cross-border professional contexts.
